Thursday Div 1 Finals at Seamers

The 2018 season of Thursday night Indoor Cricket at Seamers came to a spectacular end tonight with the minor premier Rock Hard Bombers winning a thrilling final by just 3 runs in a mammoth chase against arch-rivals Marlboro Men.andnbsp;

Batting first, the Marlboro Men were clinical, losing just 4 wickets on their way to a huge total of 156 runs, with every batter contributing equally. Luke Cappa the standout with an impressive 41 from his own stick.

With the job ahead of them, all 6 of the Rock Hard Bomber batsmen had to fire, and fire they did. The chase got off to a great start with opening batters Alistair Murrell and Jamie Bennett posting a game high 66 runs. A cautious 30 from the Bombers second pair got them within reach of a record finals chase, leaving a gettable 61 from the last pair of Dean Demos and captain Justin Zotti.

With an expensive 19 runs coming from the 13th over, the Marlboro Men found themselves on the back foot and in need of wickets. Needing simply to turn the strike however, the 2 experienced batsmen simply knocked the ball around as required as they gradually and patiently edged their way towards the total. Needing just 2 runs from the final Joe Landwehr over, it was up to Justin Zotti to keep the final 2 balls out to claim victory. A painfully close LBW scare from the penultimate ball the only pulse-racing moment in the dying seconds of the match. The Rock Hard Bombers once again being crowned Div 1 champions at Seamers.
