Tue Night Finals at Seamers!

The 2018 Winter Season of Tuesday night 6-a-side cricket came to a thrilling end this week with last year's grand final runners up the Purple Cobras up against the mighty Ants. The Ants, who went the entire season without injured skipper Adam Pearce, opted to bat first and their first pair of Jayson Gumprich and Matt Dragun didn't disappoint with a flawless opening stand of 62 runs. The Cobras found their groove with a wicket off the first ball of the next pair, with the batters unable to recover to post an under par 21. Despite the relatively strong team total, things didn't improve much for the Ants in the 3rd pair, thanks largely to a brilliant 3 wicket over from Matt McCready. The total just nudging past 3 figures to give Ants something to defend.

The chase started well for the Cobras with the first pair of Matt Macready and Mason Coad looking set to post a mid 50's score until a couple of late wickets restricted the pair to 39, keeping the Ants in the game. However, with Game MVP Pete Macready and Jack Vermeulen posting 56 for the second pair, the game was all but over - the last pair needing a paltry 9 runs for victory. Some late wickets for the Ants merely a consolation prize as the Cobras ran away with their first Div 1 title at Seamers - the start of a legacy I'm sure.
